To become a certified athletic trainer you must complete a bachelor's degree in a broad variety of sciences including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology, Biology, Exercise Physiology, or Human Performance. After getting your degree you then must pass a comprehensive exam given by the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). Before or after you complete the exam you must also complete 600 documented hours of practical experience in a clinical setting. Once you've completed all your hours and passed the test you earn a Certificate of Exercise Science (E.S.) by the ACSM.
